Soon after Wonder Woman first came to the United States, she met a U.S. Army nurse named Diana Prince, who was sobbing. Diana explained that her fiancé, Dan White, was in South America and she lacked the funds to travel there. Noticing how similar they were in appearance, Wonder Woman gave Diana a large sum of money in exchange for her credentials and name. Months later, the real Diana Prince returned, seeking out Wonder Woman and asking for her identity back. She explained that she needed to find work to help out her inventor husband and their infant child. Wonder Woman agreed. When his invention later proved successful, Diana relinquished her legal name and began referring to herself by her married name Diana White. Wonder Woman resumed using the Diana Prince identity.
