Detective Michael Yee was Sara Pezzini's partner at the NYPD before she obtained the Witchblade. Sara goes undercover to a party at the mansion of Kenneth Irons, a man who is notorious for earning his fortune by criminal means. Irons has possession of the Witchblade and intends to find out who the next Bearer will be by allowing his party guests to try it on. Sara does not realize that Michael is also undercover at the same party, but when Michael is captured, the bullets begin to fly, and Sara sees Michael go down--shot--she jumps in front of the bullets to save him. The Witchblade chooses her as the next Bearer due to her heroics, and heals her wounds, but Michael cannot be saved.
