Jeanne d'Arc, also known as "Joan of Arc", is a Catholic saint and national heroine of France. Claiming to see and hear visions of God himself, she led the French into several victorious battles against the English during the Hundred Years' War. Joan was captured by Burgundian forces in 1430, but after a number of escape attempts she was transferred to various castles until she was moved to Rouen, France in 1431. There she was put on trial for heresy, a move largely motivated by politics, and there were numerous general trial rules which were ignored for her. She was found guilty, though there was evidence that trial records were falsified. Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake in 1431.
