In the Zenescope Entertainment comics universe, The Dark One is a powerful demonic force which wants to conquer the Earth and enslave all of humanity. The Dark One was born in Valdor, a kingdom of Myst as Prince Malec. His father refused to sacrifice his son to the volcano, as tradition demanded, so a war broke out between Valdor and its neighboring kingdom. The war left Valdor in ruins, and Malec, though saved, was sent to the slave pits. A son of the opposing kingdom's king was offered to the volcano, but in trying to prevent that child from being saved, Malec falls in also, wherein the Keepers turn him into The Dark One. Though barred from traveling to Earth, The Dark One goes there anyway, and he puts fear into the heart of man. In doing that, his power grows with every feeling of fear each human has of him. He controls his own army in The Dark Horde.
