Not much is known about Specter's past, but after he accidentally scared his grandfather to death, he ends up at Xavier's Institute. He has the power to turn into a living shadow, which affords him superhuman strength and speed, near invulnerability, night vision, and immunity to darkness-based attacks. He is a member of the first team of the Hellions Squad, but once the training squads are official he switches to the Paragon Squad, and then again to Cyclops's Corsair Squad.
