Hunter Zolomon had a tough young adulthood, his mother being killed by his father and his father killed by the police. More bad luck followed him with his job at the F.B.I. but he eventually worked as a profiler for the Keystone City Police and became good friends with Wally West, aka the Flash. An incident at Iron Heights paralyzed him from the waist down and when Wally refused to use the Cosmic Treadmill to go back in time to change the past, it eventually led to Zolomon, now calling himself Zoom, getting his super-speed/time-traveling powers, and prompting all of his attempts at revenge against Flash.
