David Hersch was a violent man who regretted killing his wife Elizabeth and planned on suicide when a bolt of lightning struck him, giving him the ability to absorb the life energies of others to expand his own life. Knowing of Flash's origin, he felt connected with him. He saw himself as immortal and believed his wife would be resurrected. He started a cult and called himself Cicada. By stealing energy from people that Flash had saved, and from Flash himself, he managed to bring his wife back from the dead. Once again, he killed her and was finally stopped by Flash, Jared Morillo and Fred Chyre.
