Lar Gand

of Daxam, Mon-El / Valor / M'Onel

  • Also known as

Lar Gand of Daxam arrived on Earth with no memory of his identity. Superboy was convinced that this stranger was his older brother from Krypton, and named him Mon-El (because they met on a Monday). When Mon-El was exposed to a high concentration of lead, he collapsed. The trauma caused him to remember his true identity, and he explained to Superboy that lead is fatal to the people of his world. Superboy projected Mon-El into the Phantom Zone until a cure could be found, but none was discovered until a thousand years later. Upon his release, Mon-El joined the Legion of Super-Heroes. Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Time Trapper manipulated events such that Mon-El's history now occurred in the Pocket Universe. Glorith later altered the timeline, removing Superboy entirely from Lar Gand's history, and he instead became the 20th century hero known as Valor. Valor eventually became poisoned by lead, spent a thousand years in the Stasis Zone, and joined the Legion, just as he had in the previous timeline. After the Legion's history was rebooted by the events of Zero Hour, Lar Gand was still known as Valor, however he later changed his codename to M'Onel.
