Randy Tate was initially a flight attendant who later became an administrative overseer at a confidential government laboratory. After an earthquake demolished the facility, she and her colleagues underwent a transformation, gaining superhuman abilities and adopting the name the Lords of Light and Darkness. They engaged in battle against the X-Men and Spider-Man before being transported into space. There, they underwent another metamorphosis, becoming an energy state that appeared as a new star from Earth.
