Tor Johnson

Swedish professional wrestler and actor, appearing as himself in comics, either fictitiously or biographically. Some of his films were directed by Ed Wood; in all, Johnson was in 34 films between 1934-1961. Johnson appeared as a character in Tim Burton's film, Ed Wood (1994). He also appeared on television several times between 1953-1961, including such popular programs as You Bet Your Life, Peter Gunn and Bonanza. Cartoonist Drew Friedman depicted Tor Johnson in numerous one page stories, the first of which was published in a 1981 issue of Robert Crumb's Weirdo. A mask based on Johnson's face was best-selling during Halloween of the late 1960s to early 1970s.
