Uncle Sam

In 1777, a patriot named Sam was shot by Hessian soldiers as he tried to lead them away from a supply train. As Sam lay dying, the Spirit of America appeared and offered to merge with him to form Uncle Sam. After the American Revolution, he continued to fight: in the War of 1812, in the American Civil War, in the Spanish-American War, and in the first World War. When World War II began, the Spirit of America searched out a new host, and found another man named Samuel, who agreed to continue on as Uncle Sam.
