Will Payton was hit by a beam of energy from space and gained superhuman powers, which he used to become Starman. Will was killed in battle by Eclipso. He later showed up alive, a prisoner in another star system. It was then learned that when Will was originally hit by that beam of energy, he actually died and the soul of Prince Gavyn, another Starman, had taken over his dead body. He now exists as an amalgamation of Gavyn and Payton, with the Gavyn persona being the dominant one.
