W. C. Fields

The famous American film entertainer appearing as himself in historical, speculative or fictional accounts; the likeness of W. C. Fields characterized as a comedian, actor or juggler in either realistic or imaginary settings. The likeness and mannerisms of Fields remained part of American popular culture long after his death; the comic-strip The Wizard of Id introduced a character, Larsen E. Pettifogger, patterned after him and named for Larson E. Whipsnade, a character from a Fields movie. A quarter century after he died, a cartoon version of Fields, W. C. Fritos, was used to advertise Fritos on TV in the 1970s.
