Grant Douglas Ward is a highly trained S.H.I.E.L.D. operative who originally served as a top agent working closely with Phil Coulson. As part of a clandestine mission to infiltrate HYDRA, Ward gained the trust of Gorgon and rose through its ranks under the guise of loyalty to the terrorist organization. However, his undercover role ultimately led him to embrace HYDRA’s ideology and betray S.H.I.E.L.D., defecting to become a full-fledged agent of the evil group.
