After Angela Roth was impregnated by a demon named Trigon, she fled and contemplated suicide. She was rescued by the mystics of an interdimensional realm called Azarath. Angela was renamed Arella, which means "Messenger Angel". She safely gave birth to a daughter, who she named Raven. When she had reached her late teens, Raven joined the New Teen Titans to battle Trigon. Years later, Raven's body was destroyed. Brother Blood succeeded in binding her soul-self to the body of a teen-aged girl. After the Teen Titans defeated Brother Blood, Raven adopted the alias of Rachel Roth in order to experience life as an ordinary teenager.
