Alan Scott became the Green Lantern after finding a magic lantern. His sidekick was Doiby Dickles, and for a time he was the owner of Streak the Wonder Dog. Alan was briefly married to Rose Canton (The Thorn), who had used the alias Alyx Florin. "Alyx" faked her death on their honeymoon, and Alan was unaware that she was pregnant with twins, later named Jennie-Lynn Hayden (Jade) and Todd Rice (Obsidian). Many years later, Alan married Molly Maynne (The Harlequin). For a period of time, Alan used the codename Sentinel, and he was briefly Checkmate's White King. Alan Scott's oath is: "And I shall shed my light over dark evil, for the dark things cannot stand the light. The light of... The Green Lantern!"
