When the wizard Shazam was a young shepherd in Canaan circa 7,000 BC, he had bestowed upon him great power by six ancient gods. By speaking the magic word "VLAREM" (an anagram of "Marvel"), he gained a portion of their powers: Voldar (strength), Lumiun (wisdom), Arel (speed), Ribalvei (power), Elbiam (courage), and Marzosh (stamina).
