The Sara Pezzini who made a cameo appearance in Cyblade / Shi: The Battle for Independents (Image, 1995 series) #1, was a superhero with tights and a cape using Witchblade as her superhero name. This character origin has been ignored with the start of the ongoing series in which Sara Pezzini is an NYPD homicide detective. In Witchblade (Image, 1995 series), NYPD homicide detective Sara Pezzini goes undercover to an auction put on by Kenneth Irons, the man who has possession of the Witchblade at first. He invites people to bid and try on the gauntlet in an attempt to find a Witchblade Bearer. Sara's partner, Michael Yee, is captured and beaten by Irons' men, and when they are about to shoot him, Sara jumps in front of the bullets to save him, causing the Witchblade to choose her as its host and heal her wounds. She was unable to save Yee.
