Stephen Jay Gould was an American paleontologist, evolutionary biologist, and historian of science. He taught at Harvard University and worked at the American Museum of Natural History. He contributed to evolutionary theory, co-developing punctuated equilibrium and published widely for both scientific and general audiences.
