Brian Augustyn

Brian Augustyn was an American comic book editor and writer. He often worked as editor or co-writer with writer Mark Waid, such as on The Flash in the 1990s. He wrote Gotham by Gaslight – which imagines Batman tracking Jack the Ripper – the prototype of DC's Elseworlds imprint, which featured versions of their characters in alternate settings. Augustyn got his start in the industry in 1986 as an editor for [Trollords](app://series/16708). He then edited Syphons and Speed Racer for NOW Comics in 1987. In 1988, he joined DC, starting out as a co-editor on [Action Comics Weekly](app://series/3564), and later The Flash, Justice League, and the Impact Comics line of titles. As editor of The Flash, Augustyn hired Mark Waid as writer in 1992, which led to an acclaimed eight-year run starting from [Flash #62 (Early May 1992)](app://issue/51215). As an editor Augustyn worked for Event Comics in 1996, as editor-in-chief for Markosia Publishing in 2007, and as as an editor for White Cat Entertainment in 2021. As a solo writer, Augustyn worked on DC's [Gotham by Gaslight: An Alternative History of the Batman #[nn] (1989 [January 1990])](app://issue/45831), its sequel [Batman: Master of the Future #[nn] (1991 [February 1992])](app://issue/48951), and [Black Condor](app://series/4385), or Wildstorm Productions' [Out There](app://series/16130) and [Crimson](app://series/6148). As co-writers, Augustyn and Mark Waid scripted [Painkiller Jane](app://series/5933) and [Ash: Cinder & Smoke](app://series/15501) for Event Comics, [X-O Manowar](app://series/5831) for Valiant, and [JLA: Year One](app://series/5981). After leaving his position as editor in 1996, Augustyn teamed with Waid to co-write The Flash in 1996–1997 and 1998–2000. He was the co-Creator of Warhead and Dai Kamikaze: Man in the Moon.
