Bruce Mutard

Mutard grew up admiring the few European comics available in Australia, from Tintin and Asterix to Heavy Metal Illustrated. He studied graphic design at Swinburne Institute of Technology, at which time he discovered and began to produce underground comix. He is also influenced by classic cinema, focused on telling everyday human stories. His graphic novels include The Sacrifice (Allen & Unwin, 2008), The Silence (Allen & Unwin, 2009), A Mind of Love (Black House Comics, 2011), The Bunker (Image Comics, 2003) and Stripshow (Milk Shadow Books, 2012). His short stories have been published in Overland, Meanjin, The Australian Book Review and Tango. He illustrated books for Macmillan Education's Stories From Australia's History series. In 2015, Mutard established his own publishing imprint, Fabilaux, to publish niche works with a small readership that deserve to appear in print. He co-founded of Australian journal 'Comics Quarterly'.
