Wally Bishop

Wally Bishop was a comics creator who worked in syndicated strips. He created ‘Muggs McGinnis’ in 1927, syndicated by King Features. In 1936 it was renamed ‘Muggs and Skeeter’ and he continued it until 1974, for just shy of fifty years. During World War II, he was a Coast Guard pilot and then in the Navy, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatres. Louise Bishop, his wife, was an active philanthropist. The Bishop Center for Ethical Leadership at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg is named for the couple. Bishop continued to draw ‘Muggs and Skeeter’ until 1974, when he retired. He died in 1982.
