George Akokalidis

George Akokalidis is a Greek cartoonist and graphic designer. He studied graphic design in ATO - Doxiadis School. Since 1971 he has worked as an editorial and political cartoonist for newspapers in Athens and Thessaloniki. Three collections of his cartoons have been published. Starting in 1981, together with Tasos Apostolids (text) he adapted the comedies of Aristophanes in comics which since then have been continuously in print, having sold more than 750 thousand copies, and been translated to English, French and German. In 2011-2012 they collaborated again in a comics adaptation of the Odyssey published in Greek and English. He has illustrated many novels and children's books and has designed the costumes and sets for theater plays. From 2000 to 2013 he directed and taught his own drawing workshop in Thessaloniki.
