Hans Mulder

Born the son of a man who was executed by the Nazi occupiers when he was only two weeks old, Mulder developed an interest in political cartoons at an early age, while studying newspaper reports of his father's untimely death. He later studied Art History in Utrecht, and his fascination grew. Unable to work due to poor health, he spent his life cultivating interest for political cartoons, by writing articles and books on the subject, but mostly by organising cartoonists and showings of their work. He was the founder of Stichting Pers & Prent (1980), the Inktspotprijs, the BeNe Cartoonprijs (2003, with Belgian colleagues), and Junior Inktspotprijs (2004). He was also active in keeping alive the memory of World War II, mostly among children.
