Jess Abrera

Jess Abrera is a Filipino editorial / political cartoonist. He is currently the chief cartoonist and comics editor of The Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) where he has worked since 1985 and where his comic strips "Pinoy Nga!" and "A. Lipin" are published. He has received the National Book Award from the Manila Critics Circle for "Pinoy Nga!" as well the Best Humor in Cartoons and Best Editorial Cartoon awards in 2006, 2007 and 2008 from the Catholic Mass Media Award (CMMA), inducting him into CMMA’s Hall of Fame. He also received the grand prize for children’s book illustration in 1984 for the book "Handyong" (written by his wife Dette Lorenzo Abrera) from The Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY). He is the father of cartoonist Manuel "Manix" Abrera.
