Bayer Antal

Bayer Antal is a Hungarian comics translator, editor, scholar, and writer. He was the first president of the Hungarian Comic Publishers’ Association and a central figure in the development of Hungary’s contemporary comics culture. Active since the early 1990s, he edited and translated a wide range of American and European comics, including Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men, Garfield, Asterix, Blueberry, and works by Milo Manara. Bayer launched several key Hungarian comics publications, including Fekete-Fehér Képregényantológia, Papírmozi, and Nero Blanco Comix, often highlighting young local creators. He also authored numerous scholarly books on comics history, particularly focusing on European comics magazines such as Pilote, Pif-Gadget, and Journal de Tintin. As a comics scriptwriter, he collaborated with several Hungarian artists on historically themed and literary adaptations. His work continues to shape the academic and popular understanding of comics in Hungary.
