Nick Cardy

Nick Cardy was an American comics artist best known for his DC work on Aquaman, the Teen Titans and other major characters. Cardy entered the comics field working for the [Eisner and Iger Studio](app://creator/3922). Joining the studio circa 1940, he worked mainly on [Fight Comics](app://series/160), [Jungle Comics](app://series/161), and [National Comics](app://series/159). He wrote and drew the four-page backup feature Lady Luck in [The Spirit](app://series/10295) for 9 months. Cardy did World War II military service from 1943 to 1945. In 1950, Cardy began his decades-long association with DC, starting with the comic book [Gang Busters](app://series/496). He began developing his reputation with [Tomahawk](app://series/705) and worked on, among others, [House of Mystery](app://series/791), [My Greatest Adventure](app://series/1103), and [Tales of the Unexpected](app://series/1196). From 1962 to 1968, he drew the first 39 issues of [Aquaman](app://series/1488) and all its covers through the final issue (#56, April 1971). From 1966 to 1973, Cardy penciled or inked – sometimes both – all 43 issues of the series [Teen Titans](app://series/1733). Cardy became the primary [DC cover artist](https://www.comics.org/creator/9883/covers/?publisher=54&page=3) from the early to mid-1970s. Cardy left the comics industry in the mid-1970s for the more lucrative field of commercial art.
