Synopsis

In 1933, artists Taro Yashima and Mitsu Yashima move with their young son to a part of Tokyo where they live with the workers. The child grows strong in the sun; they plant gardens; thanks to a neighborhood nursery they can work and earn more money, and give the child more milk. As they become part of the workers' community they plan large new pictures "that would have a deeper reality than any before."
