Synopsis

On a cold, rainy December night, Carin takes desperate risks to cross the Berlin wall. She is helped on her journey by Gregor. When Gregor asks her why she has to get to Paris, she replies that "the motive is Herman". She had been in love with Herman, who lived for his painting, but he was gravely injured in an automobile accident. On his death bed, Carin had promised to get his paintings to Paris. When she leaves, Gregor thinks he will never see her again. But she returns in the spring. After fulfilling her promise to Herman, she is now free to love Gregor.
