Synopsis
Superman spies a crashing rocket and discovers his cousin Supergirl. She tells him how Argo City survived the destruction of Krypton and how her father sent her to Earth when the inhabitants of Argo City were threatened by Kryptonite poisoning. Superman sets her up in Midvale Orphanage so she can adjust to life on Earth.

Collects Supergirl back-up stories from Action Comics #252-307. Includes the lead story from Action #285 "The World's Greatest Heroine! Part 1" where Supergirl is revealed to the world.
Note: this collection does not include the cover or lead story from Action Comics #276 "The War between Supergirl and the Supermen Emergency Squad!", a Superman story that prominently features Supergirl. Both this story and its cover were reprinted previously in Supergirl Archives volume 2. Curiously, images from both the story and the cover were reprinted among other illustrations for the Foreward section of this collection.
The stories from Action Comics #286-307 were not previously included in the Supergirl Archives, as volume 2 of that series ended with Action Comics #285.
