Synopsis

The Bell and Merton families have been feuding over a business deal for ten years. Rita and Steve meet at a party and fall in love. When they tell their parents, they are forbidden to see each other again, but defy these orders. However, Steve refuses to elope with Rita, saying “our marriage must start out right!” Rita breaks up with him, then hears Steve is dating the mayor’s daughter. Rita’s parents can’t “stand the idea of any boy walking out on you,” so they withdraw their objections to Steve and Rita’s romance.
