Synopsis

College student Jean drops her boyfriend Tommy in order to attend the prom with football player Hank. Jean’s mother Vera tells her a story: “homely” but smart student Vera has a crush on football player Ted, who dates her roommate Claire. Claire gives Vera a makeover and Vera steals Ted away. Ted arranges to throw the big game for gambler Spinelli, and Vera is left as a hostage. She escapes with the help of Homer, a young professor who loves her. Vera marries Homer; Jean is their daughter. Jean decides to go to prom with Tommy after all.
