Synopsis

Ellen refuses to marry Eddie because she wants to have a better life than he can offer her. She quits business school and goes to work in a department store where she’s quickly promoted. Eddie proposes again and breaks up with her when Ellen refuses again. Ellen dates wealthy Roger and allows him to believe she’s from a prominent family although her parents are actually poor. When Ellen's father falls ill, Roger’s family learns the truth and he rejects her. Ellen reconciles with Eddie and they’ll live on his salary.
