Synopsis

Celeste grew up poor and envied girls with fine clothes. After high school, she’s hired as a hat check girl in a nightclub and co-worker Mae urges her to upgrade her look. Celeste’s boyfriend Ted dislikes her new, flashy appearance. Celeste’s mother needs an expensive operation and Celeste – who thinks Ted has cheated on her with Sandra – agrees to date free-spender Clark. He makes a pass at her and Ted hits him: Ted says he was with Sandra so she could get him a job to pay for the operation. Celeste thinks she’s lost Ted, but they are reunited.
