Steve Gerber, the writer of the Dr. Fate portion of this series, passed away before the script for the final issue was written. Four writers, Mark Waid, Gail Simone, Mark Evanier and Adam Beechen each wrote a 4 page conclusion to the storyline for this issue. The endings by Simone and Beechen make reference to other characters created by or made famous by Gerber, such as Howard the Duck.
