About Defiant
Defiant was the company Jim Shooter founded in 1993 after being removed from Valiant, which he had also founded. It was his third attempt at building a superhero universe from first principles, and the most compressed: Warriors of Plasm, Dark Dominion, Charlemagne and a handful of others, all launched at once.
Marvel sued over the name Plasm, claiming confusion with its own Plasmer. Defiant won little and spent a great deal, and the litigation is generally held to have finished a company that the collapsing market of 1994 would have tested severely in any case. It published for barely two years.
