Dan Garret was a police officer and later an agent of the American Secret Service. A pharmacist named Doctor Franz provided Garret with his two greatest inventions, a bulletproof chainmail uniform and Vitamin 2X, which allowed Garret to become the crimefighter named The Blue Beetle. Later in his career, the Blue Beetle was assisted by a sidekick named Sparky.
